Tips for Success
Program graduates, cohort coordinators, course instructors, field supervisors, mentor teachers, and partner school administrators offer these tips for success:
ASK
Ask for help when you need it . Your cohort coordinator, course instructors, field supervisors, mentor teachers, partner school administrators, and classmates will be there to help you every step of the way. Don’t wait—ask right away. Others may have the same questions that you do.
BALANCE
Balance all of the important parts of your life so that you can be successful in the EECE program. Spend time planning to help keep your life in balance during the EECE program and to organize your responsibilities for success.
*Helpful Hints from EECE graduates: Get a calendar, write everything on it, and check it often. Graduates also recommend making a separate three-ring binder for every course.
COMMUNICATE
Communicate with those around you . Communicating can mean asking an instructor to clarify an assignment or asking family members to help cover your responsibilities at home. Take the initiative to keep the wheels of communication turning in your life.
Important : Notify your mentor teachers, field supervisors, and instructors in advance if you will be absent from your field placement or courses.
DECIDE
Decide if teaching is right for you . The EECE program gives you opportunities to work in schools from the very first semester. Decide if you have the dedication and passion for teaching that a career in education requires. Follow your own dreams in choosing your career.
ENJOY
Enjoy the children , teachers, instructors, supervisors, parents, and community members you meet and work with during the EECE program. Being a teacher is demanding, but it also is a tremendously rewarding profession. Bring your classroom to life, and let your love for teaching show.
