Statewide Distance Learning Program
In 2003, the Institute for Teacher Education initiated a statewide distance learning program to serve the islands of O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Moloka‘i, Maui, Lana‘i, and Hawai‘i Island. Statewide teacher candidates complete the same program of study as O‘ahu candidates. Teacher candidates spend two days per week in K-6 field experience classrooms in the first three semesters and student teach full-time in the fourth semester. Courses are provided in a hybrid format that consists of web-based instruction and three to four face-to-face weekend meetings per semester. Statewide teacher candidates take all of their courses together except for SPED 304, ITE/EDEF 360 and the Performing Arts elective. These three courses should be completed before entering the program. Candidates can learn more at http://coe.hawaii.edu/ite/bed-elementary/distance.
