Courses
Teacher candidates take three to five Professional Core courses plus field experience in fall semester.
Courses meet on in these time blocks:
· 7:50 a.m. - 10:20 a.m.
· 10:50 a.m. - 1:20 p.m.
· 1:45 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. (some early childhood courses are offered from 4:30-7:00 p.m)
Candidates take the introductory cornerstone course: Introduction to Teaching (ITE 312) during the first semester, along with two to three methods courses and field experience. Teacher candidates receive registration information in advance for all cohort courses, which are block-scheduled for cohort members.
Professional Core and Elementary Education Emphasis courses are graded A-F. Teacher candidates must make a grade of C or better in these courses. A grade of C- or lower requires students to repeat the course in order to complete the program.
Grades
Teacher education candidates must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 each semester to continue in the program. Teacher candidates receive the grades they earn. Instructors assign Incomplete (I) grades only in extraordinary circumstances. Incomplete grades must be made up by specified deadlines (November 1 or April 1) the following semester. Teacher candidates must remove all Incomplete grades before student teaching.
