American Samoa Program
The EECE Program also is offered in American Sāmoa. This program is called the Territorial Teacher Training Assistance Project (TTTAP), which is funded by the American Sāmoa Department of Education (ASDOE). The University of Hawai‘i has had a long-standing relationship with ASDOE, delivering a B.Ed. program in American Sāmoa since 1978. The cohort model was first implemented in 1997, and the first cohort graduated in May 2000. On average, candidates take two and a half years to complete their studies, including two summers. Program graduates serve the ASDOE in many leadership capacities, both in and out of the classroom.
TTTAP offers the Elementary and Early Childhood Education degree, including the Dual Preparation program in Elementary and Special Education and the Dual Preparation in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, for in-service elementary teachers who are seeking a B.Ed. degree. Teacher candidates take courses in the evenings with field supervision provided to cohort candidates during the school day. New cohorts are admitted at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Program staff members include the Project Director, cohort coordinators, field supervisors, and a group of mentor teachers who assist the cohort candidates during their student teaching semester and in the Summer Professional Development School.
